Everything you need to know…
What is the Shared Leadership Model?
Two headteachers sharing the leadership of a school. One email. One office. One full-time job.
We have a headship crisis. We also have a gender gap. We also have a struggling school system.
Why?
We believe that the combined experience of two dedicated leaders provides schools with greater wisdom, experience and impact on outcomes than conventional leadership roles.
We believe that the career experience of working in a shared leadership role gives our members rich opportunities for personal and professional growth. For students, shared leadership means school leaders are more present around school, more able to drive schools forward in terms of outcomes and more likely to lead schools over a longer term.
Education has been suffering from a retention crisis for years now, we believe shared school leadership will ease workload, increase positivity within teaching and encourage those early on in their careers to aspire to headship.
We are facing a headship crisis in UK schools. This is expected to worsen over the coming decade. To address this, for our students, schools and communities, creative thinking about school leadership is required.
The Shared Headship Network is part of the solution!
How?
We believe that job shares can be as successful in education as they are in other sectors. We created a unique shared leadership matching tool to pair aspiring leaders together based on values and experience. We support our members to create shared leadership roles which have the potential to transform schools into outstanding places to work and learn.
We coach and train aspiring leaders to recognise their skillsets and leadership ability, we assist leaders, HR and governors within schools to create shared leadership opportunities.
We provide networking structures and support for our community to meet and connect with other like-minded individuals who are passionate about changing the culture of education.
Who?
We are four committed school leaders who aspire to be head teachers. We are also committed parents, partners and members of the community. We understand, and have experienced the challenges education faces around recruitment, particularly in challenging contexts.
